MANUAL AND AUTOMATIC TRANSFER SWITCHES

Transfer panels are used (in conjunction with stand-by generator sets) to switch from Public Utility power to standby generator power, when Public Utility power fails. The electrical load (home, farm, factory, and hospital) is then carried by the stand-by generator set until normal power is restored. A manual transfer switch requires that an operator be on duty to start the electric generator when Public Utility power fails. Then manually transfer and stop the generator set when normal power is restored. An automatic transfer panel handles these functions without an operator, when needed. The automatic panel requires a generator set that is electrically started, and is equipped with an Auto-Start panel which functions to start and stop the engine, upon a signal from the automatic transfer panel.
