Well here's another solution for Hubby! This British Army Surplus Land Mine Detector has a design that incorporates three IT4 vacuum tubes (valves), uses a 1.5 volt A battery, and a 60 to 70 volt B battery (batteries not included).

The unit comes complete with the Control Head, Amplifier Unit, Ear Phones, Search Coil, Collapsible Shaft, and a handy Canvas Carrying Case. All of this is packed into a Wooden Field Chest as shown. The units have not been tested and are sold "as is", "as received" from the government. No books or Instruction Manuals are included. These units do not have meters.
