Power Distribution Transformer
This
is a used-in-the-box, Jefferson Electric - Power Distribution Transformer,
catalog number 345-205, Military number Mil-T-6476A, Type F-1. The transformer
steps the voltage down from 4000 volts to 120 volts, at 500 VA, 60 Hz. and is
designated "Runway Overrun Lighting Transformer".
The current is sent down the runway at high voltage (4000 volts) to minimize
"line loss" and facilitate the use of smaller gauge wire. This
transformer is used to step the voltage back down to 120 volts. I suppose this
could serve well for a ski slope or race track lighting for the same reasons.
Unconfirmed possible uses would be for building a "jacobs ladder" (tesla
coil) or some neon applications. If it is used to step the voltage up from 120
volts to 4000 volts, some form of (current limiter" should be in series
with the input voltage.
Be advised that we have received two emails from eBayers advising that this
transformer will not work in reverse. An eBayer was kind enough to send us
the definitive article on why it won't work that way - so we pass info this on.
Thanks "eBayer"!
The transformer and the electrical leads are sealed in rubber. Overall
dimensions: 15" high x 7" wide. Crated shipping weight is 60 lbs. This
is an excellent buy.
"YOUR PRICE PER TRANSFORMER IS $35.50"! .
